Daniel Taub was born in Great Britain in 1962 and moved to Israel in 1989. He attended Oxford University College in London and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He is currently the Director of Strategy and Planning of the Yad Hanidiv Foundation.
Upon his arrival in Israel, he worked for President Chaim Herzog as a speechwriter. Mr. Taub served in the Israel Defense Forces as a reserve officer in their international law division and a combat medic. He later stated to work for the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1991and has held many diplomatic and legal positions.
He served as the Ambassador of Israel to the United Kingdom from 2011 to 2015. Once as a peace negotiator, he traveled to Northern Ireland with his Palestinian counterparts to observe and learn from the situation there. He was also part of the Israel-Syrian negotiations, and he headed the observer delegation of Israel to the International Court of Justice proceedings on Israel’s security barriers. He also represented Israel before the United Nations investigation committee about the Gaza convoy incident. He fought for the reentry of Israel’s Red Cross Society into the International Red Cross Society after a 70 year seclusion.
In 2012, Daniel Taub stated during an interview that he was alarmed about the mood of some campuses and colleges. He advised the administration to make sure that there is freedom of expression in campuses including views and comments about Israel.
In 2014, Daniel Taub visited the city of Bradford after the parliament representative declared it an Israel-free zone. In addition to serving as an ambassador for the UK, he was also the first Israeli ambassador to the International Maritime Authority situated in London. He was also appointed as the Ambassador to the Court of St. James in 2011.
During Daniel Taub’s ambassadorship, the trade between the two countries doubled, and there was a significant improvement in the cultural and academic relationship between them. According to Sajid Javis, the British Secretary of State for Business and Innovation and Skill, over 300 Israeli businesses were set up in the UK.
He was nominated for the Grassroots Diplomat Initiative award for his contribution towards the growth and support of young and startup businesses.
He has reached out to UK-Israeli community and attended many ethnic and cultural events hosted by other ambassadors.
